The BSc. Web Application Development is a four-year undergraduate programme offered by the Department of Mobile and Pervasive Computing under the Faculty of Computing & Information Systems (FoCIS).
Applicants holding a recognised HND or a 2-year tertiary diploma qualification in Web Application Development or equivalent in related fields are eligible for top-up entry into the programme.

Web design and development facilitate modern computing, as most of the technologies used today are increasingly connected to the web. This has created a high demand for technically competent professionals capable of developing innovative ideas and creating solutions for the future.
The programme is designed to train competent graduates equipped with the skills to design, develop and maintain secure web applications, web services and mobile web applications that exploit the capabilities of the internet.

The programme is designed to equip successful students with the ability to:
• Critically apply creative thinking to solve real-world problems and utilise human-centered design principles to develop products that are fit for purpose.
• Apply scientific principles to choose the appropriate tools and establish and manage secure web servers as well as create and maintain appropriate web material.
• Apply industry-standard codes of practice and conduct, including privacy and security protocols in their professional practices.
• Effectively analyze clients’ requirements, manage expectations and ultimately deliver excellent custom solutions.
• Effectively use the latest tools, techniques and scripting languages to design and develop dynamic, interactive and secure web and responsive mobile solutions.
• Design and develop software solutions to address a wide range of problems.
• Consider and explain the relevance and implications of professional, legal, managerial, business, organisational, ethical, compliance, social and sustainability issues in web application development.
• Understand and apply ethical, legal and moral principles in the development and use of computing systems.
• Demonstrate a strong foundation in algorithmic thinking and web technologies required for advanced studies and research in web and internet technologies.
• Research and present rational, warranted and reasoned arguments that address issues relating to software engineering and web application development. -
Programme Duration:
• Four years (8 semesters)
• HND and Diploma holders may qualify for top-up admission into Level 200 or 300 after transcript evaluation
• Combines theoretical learning with practical hands-on training and project work
The programme focuses on modern web technologies, software development, mobile web applications, web security, databases, UI/UX design and system development methodologies. -
WASSCE Applicants:
At least credits (A1-C6) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus at least credits (A1-C6) in any three (3) elective subjects.
SSSCE Applicants:
At least credits (A-D) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus at least credits (A-D) in any three (3) elective subjects.
GBCE/ABCE Applicants:
At least three (3) credits (A-D) in GBCE core subjects: English Language, Business Mathematics and Integrated Science in addition to at least credits (A-D) in three (3) ABCE subjects such as Information Technology, Hardware and Networking, Information Systems or System Analysis and Design.
‘O’/A’ Level Applicants:
• Five (5) credits in ‘O’ Level including English and Mathematics, plus THREE (3) ‘A’ Level passes in any subject;
• Applicants must also have a pass in General Paper.
Mature Applicants:
• Applicants must be at least 25 years old at the time of application with proof of age provided through a birth certificate or any other legitimate documentary evidence;
• Applicants must have at least five (5) years’ working experience in an IT-related job.
In Addition To:
• WASSCE: At least E8 in six (6) subjects, comprising three (3) core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
OR
• SSSCE: At least E in six (6) subjects, comprising three (3) core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
Applicants satisfying the age and working experience requirements plus any of the academic qualifications above must pass the Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations in English Language, Mathematics and Aptitude Test organised by the university.
OR
In lieu of the Mature Entrance Examinations, applicants who provide proof of Credit Pass in English Language and Core Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognized high-school level examination (for applicants from countries outside the WAEC system) will be admitted.
HND Applicants:
• An HND qualification or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or an IT-related programme with at least 2nd Class Lower Division from an accredited tertiary institution;
• Applicants must have at least two (2) years post-HND qualification working experience;
• Applicants with HND in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology shall be admitted to Level 300, whilst applicants with HND in other IT-related programmes shall have their transcripts evaluated for placement in Level 200.
Applicants with 2-Year Tertiary Diploma:
• A 2-year tertiary diploma qualification or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Web Application Development, Multimedia Technologies, Information Technology or any IT-related field with at least 2nd Class Lower Division from an accredited tertiary institution shall be admitted into Level 300 after transcript evaluation;
• Applicants must also have at least two (2) years’ post-diploma qualification working experience.
Foreign Applicants:
All foreign qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology or any IT-related field will be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission. -
