The BSc. Software Engineering is a 4-year undergraduate degree programme offered at the Department of Computer Science under the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems (FoCIS).
The programme provides students with the opportunity to graduate with a strong foundation in computing theory and practical application of software engineering concepts, tools, and technologies. Applicants with Diploma, HND, or equivalent qualifications in Computer Science or related fields may be admitted for top-up. -
Aims of the Programme:
• Prepare graduates for professional careers and further studies in Software Engineering.
• Provide a balance between computing theory and practical software development.
• Equip students with broad and in-depth expertise to develop reliable, efficient, and quality software.
• Ensure breadth across allied disciplines and depth in software engineering body of knowledge.
Objectives of the Programme:
• Identify problems, analyse requirements, and implement automated solutions.
• Apply mathematical and engineering methods to computing problems.
• Demonstrate strong programming and problem-solving skills.
• Recognise ethical and professional responsibilities in software engineering.
• Undertake research and further studies in software engineering. -
Admission Requirements:
• WASSCE Applicants: Credits (A1–C6) in 3 core subjects (English, Mathematics, Integrated Science) plus Elective Mathematics and any two electives.
• SSSCE Applicants: Credits (A–D) in 3 core subjects plus Elective Mathematics and two electives.
• GBCE/ABCE Applicants: Credits in GBCE core (English, Business Mathematics, Integrated Science) plus 3 ABCE subjects such as IT, Hardware & Networking, or Systems Analysis.
• ‘O’/‘A’ Level Applicants: Five (5) O-Level credits including English, Add. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry + 3 A-Level passes (Maths, Physics, Chemistry). Must pass General Paper.
• Mature Applicants: Minimum age 25, must pass written exam, and provide ID at least 5 years old.
• HND Applicants: HND in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security → Level 300; HND in Mech/Electrical Eng. → Level 200.
• Diploma Applicants: 2-year Diploma in relevant fields with at least 2nd Class Lower. Placement at Level 200/300 depending on field.
• Technical Schools Applicants: Credits in English, Mathematics, Integrated Science + Elective Maths + 2 electives.
• Foreign/ICGCE Applicants: Referred to GTEC for eligibility/equivalence. -
