• The PhD Computer Science is a 4-year doctoral programme offered by the Department of Computer Science under the Faculty of Computing and Information Systems (FoCIS).

    It is designed to produce highly skilled research-oriented computer scientists capable of generating new knowledge and driving innovation in academia, industry, and technology leadership.

  • Aims of the Programme:

    The primary goal of the PhD Computer Science is to develop researchers with the ability to generate new knowledge and extend theoretical and practical understanding in computing. The programme also fosters leadership, innovation, and ethical responsibility in the discipline.


    Objectives:

    • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and use of computing methods and techniques.
    • Explore complex computing problems and design innovative solutions.
    • Develop advanced computing-based systems that meet academic and industry needs.
    • Apply ethical and professional standards in computing practice and research.
    • Acquire advanced expertise in computer theories and systems.
    • Conduct scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and books.
    • Critically analyse, evaluate, and develop advanced computing solutions.
    • Engage in peer review and contribute to innovation in research and practice.
    • Lead research projects, teams, and technological initiatives with professionalism.
  • Admission Requirements:

    Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree (preferably MSc or MPhil in Computer Science, or equivalent international qualifications). A 2-year MSc/MPhil in Computer Science is strongly preferred.

    Applicants with deficiencies in Computer Science may be required to take additional courses before enrollment.


    Foreign Applicants:

    All foreign qualifications in relevant fields will be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalence and admission eligibility.
